My name is David Homer, and I'm a bass player, too...
For nearly 30 years I have been part of more than a handful of area bands, amongst them the Guinness Brothers, Seventh Son, Second Wind, Turnstyle, First Cause, Weesediver, and Johnny Apollo..
From the start I wasn't blessed with money.. I had little chance of walking into the music store and coming out with shiny new gear, so I had to take advantage of my mechanical aptitude and do-it-yourself attitude..
One of my first DIY music projects was one of those E-V TL cabs for an 18"EVM (it was the 70's, who knew any better??) That thing was huge, and I muscled that thing up and down off the top of my AMC Gremlin every weekend.. Then I dabbled into building my own instrument, an all-maple Explorer-style rock machine that served me nearly 10 years..
Then came the fateful day I walked into Radio Shack, and found that book on speaker cab design. I rewrote the computer program in there to run on my Atari 800XL, and I was hooked..
At the time I was borrowing a 2-15" Peavey box with a pair of E-V Forces. I soon came to realize why those drivers were a very bad choice for that cab, and learned to EQ that big ol' hump out.. A few years later I was actually designing and building my own stage gear. The ensuing projects were learning experiences, and results improved with each attempt. Settled on a pair of 12's (in pic) that worked pretty well for quite a while. I knew I had things pretty well figured when someone approached me after a soundcheck telling me that was the best bass tone he's ever heard from a bar band..
The plans for Gigmaster started shaping in the summer of 2010, when my wife and I went house hunting. She fell in love with the house, I was eyeballing the heated and wired shop, and dedicated office space. Moved in just before Christmas, and Gigmaster was officially open the following April.
Joining the greenboy team was a no-brainer. Before I opened shop I looked long and hard at the fEARful designs, and came to the conclusion I didn't want to go the route of another well-known builder making something less than the genuine article.. If I wanted to run a first-class business, you got to have first-class products.. greenboy admittedly took a chance with me.. Other builders were somewhat established, I was a startup.. but I think I proved worthy, and we are a team for the long haul!
With the web presence and the national exposure we have, I have had customers from Texas, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Maryland, and New York. But it is my intention to concentrate hard on serving musicians here in Michigan. I have a little promotion going on for Michigan residents, see the ordering page for details.. We are always looking for ways to serve the local/regional musician, and expect to see some new wrinkles here in the near future... Look for us to be participants in area swap meets, and we intend to become a leading promoter of musician swap meets here in the future.
